When do you go back?

I’ve been an immigrant for the past 10+ years and I’m so proud of my journey!

I’m a law-abiding citizen who’s paid cumulatively millions of dollars in taxes, bought properties and a spent a lot of time trying to be a good neighbor.

Travelling as an adult from Italy, made it to the UK and the US (with smaller stops here and there).

As a kid with two parents from two different countries, and mainly as someone who has considered himself a European most of his life, I’ve made an effort to learn the British culture, then the American culture, especially in Texas, and trust me, it isn’t for the weak…

But immigration should in most cases be a net positive to society, socially, economically and culturally.

I didn’t move to the UK to ask for a hand-out.

I moved to learn and work.

I didn’t move to the US to ask for a hand-out either.

The reality is that there’s only so much good you can do when you’re a country that takes and shelters people that suffer.

Sometimes this comes at the cost of those who suffer already within your country: The homelessness and the general abandonment of other fellow humans (sometimes those who fought for their country).

BUT the worst thing is the drug abuse that comes with being left to rot on the streets, it is the worst thing I have encountered in the US…I’ve never seen this anywhere else.

Meanwhile in Europe

Sure there are less issues of drugs abuse but, on the other hand, huge immigration crisis where integration into Europe, has failed hundreds of thousands of lives.

Let’s be realistic, immigration shouldn’t be unlimited.

Governments have limited budgets, and when the money runs out to support everyone, it’s not pretty.

We end up with higher taxes, skilled and wealthy individuals leave, and the country suffers.

Currently, Western and Southern Europe are witnessing such a phenomenon.

I envision no genuinely positive resolution to this situation, other than social unrest and worse.

The risks involved are substantial.

Maybe it’s time to go back and help re-build?
